FRIDAY: Would You Wear A Leather Skirt To Work?

My name is Jordan Michaels and I love leather skirts.

"Go on, Jordan."

My fascination began in college but it really predates that.  I fell in love with skirts in high school and was always intrigued by the "older" girls that I would occasionally see wearing a leather skirt.

"Jordan, your feelings are completely natural.  Continue."

It started out simply as a great item to wear dancing but before long I found myself wanting to wear my leather skirt while shopping and eventually even to class.  I was arguably obsessed.

"Hmmm... that may be a bit unusual?  Go on."

Over time I graduated and began my professional career.  My collection of leather skirts continued to grow.

"Why do you think you felt the need to graduate?"

I thought this was about my obsession with leather skirts?  Are you not a psychiatrist?

"Psychiatrist?  No, I'm your very bored niece."

So much for the therapy session... on to today's outfit...

So... my simple question...

Would You Wear A Leather Skirt To The Office?

Obviously, I do...

Tailored & feminine white blouse... check.

Attractive & feminine jacket... check.

"Conservative" boots with "sensible" heels... check.

Black pencil skirt... check.

The perfect office combination in late October.

Why would the fact that the skirt is made of leather be an issue?

Fortunately, for me, it isn't.

I have always loved the added buckle detail in these boots.  So much more fashionable than my Born boots... just not as comfortable.

These are great boots but they are not Born boots.

Wearing Born is like wearing pillows on your feet.

So...

Have you worn your leather skirt to the office?

If not, would you consider wearing one to the office?

Do you even think that it is appropriate?

Have A Fabulous Day!

Red Leather At Work...

Not much time to write today.  That is the way things go now and then.

I am sure that many of you are thrilled to read that anyway.

Hee Hee

SOOOOO...

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Did I select enough conservative pieces to "downplay" the obviously edgy red leather skirt?

Office appropriate today?

BTW... if you stopped by my last posting... thank you.  I hope that I answered most of your questions.

If you left one of the AMAZINGLY SWEET comments... I am speechless.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Have A Great Day!!!!

In The Navy...

Did I have you going?  You thought I had joined the navy, right?  Maybe I was wearing something "nautical" at least?  Okay, maybe not...

Oh well.  I couldn't help but go with the play on words.

It is late... creativity pretty much ends there.  Some would say it started that way considering what I wore to work today.  Perhaps?

Personally, I truly LOVE this skirt.  Very versatile.  Does well at the office.  Does well on the weekend.  Actually, for me, my attire is often one in the same.  Hee Hee

Anyway, what do you think of my skirt?

Don't you just love that detailing?  It is just different.

Mix in a classic oxford...

And you get a "conservative" but "feminine" look for the office.

Despite my penchant for a great leather skirt I am actually quite "conservative" in my wardrobe choices.  The platform heels that I showed you on Saturday really are a little out of my "comfort zone".

"Link" on over to that post and tell me if they are "office appropriate" footwear.  I have been wavering...

They are great shoes but these classic Nine West heels are more my "style" on a regular basis.

Nine West makes wonderful stuff and these have been well loved for years.

And the finished product...

My day... LONG, BUSY DAY... at the office was fruitful.  We finally finished a big project and got it out via FedEx just a couple of hours ago.  There is nothing like bringing something to a satisfying conclusion.

Well, way past my bedtime so I will call it a night.

Insomnia... And Some Blogs I Recommend...

Okay, so I have not posted anything in several days.  Sue me.  Actually, please don't do that... enough headaches right now.  Hee Hee

Anyway, Sis has the kids back east visiting their father.  Without all of the unnecessary personal details, let's just say the situation is all but perfect.  My sister is a tough cookie and the kids are making the best of things.

On to brighter... err... darker things.

It is almost 2:00 am and I have a big meeting at 8:00 am.  I cannot tell you how much I HATE EARLY MEETINGS!  Who calls a meeting so early?

I guess that I am nervous?  Honestly, not an emotion I often have.  What else could explain my being awake at 2:00 am?  Believe me, I need my beauty sleep.  Hee Hee

Before I post these photos please understand that the clients we have coming in are no nonsense types.  All business.  Very old school.  They probably do not even want to hear from the female executive?

Boring.  Formal.  Conservative.  Appropriate.  These are the words for the day.  With that said...

I have had this suit for many years.  I suppose the boxy cut in the jacket gives that away?

This was actually one of my first really big apparel buys after graduating college.  Everyone should have a great "interview suit" and this was/is mine.  Kasper makes good stuff... or at least I think so.

Despite the obvious flaws (read ALL BLACK) it really is a suit that I love to wear.  There is just 'something' about wearing a great suit.

The collar adds a little interest.  It 'sits up' just right.  I like it.

You have seen these lovely shoes before.  I actually wear them frequently.  A great pair of black heels is a flawless addition to any ensemble if you ask me.  Ok, maybe an 'easy' addition, too.  Hee Hee

Okay, now it is time for a brief tangent...

Everyone should have a great suit for work.  If you are working (or planning to be working) in the 'professional world', you NEED one.  I hope that we can all agree on that?  Graduate college... check.  Buy suit... check.  If you are looking for work in the 'professional world' it is a must.

So what do you do after that?  I think you read these blogs...

Jodi from Day 2 Day Wear just posted the things that she wears that make her feel good.  Personally, I think all of her items are perfect for the office.  Very feminine.  Very professional.

Margo from Classroom Couture has perfected dressing professionally.

Marion from Marion Berry Style is not only gorgeous but her sense of style is flawless.

Many of you are already familiar with Anh of 9 to 5 Chic fame but when you are talking about appropriate and fashionable office attire she is simply the queen.

If Anh is the queen, then these ladies certainly deserve the moniker of princess...

Bessie from Bravoe Runway

and

Annie from Stylish Petite

All of these ladies have 'corporate chic' down to a science.  They are simply amazing and provide me with daily inspiration.  Read, enjoy & hopefully have the same experience with them that I have.

Alright, it is now literally 2:44 am.  Perhaps I will try again to get some sleep?  I really do think that I am a little nervous.  Odd.  Huh.  Wish me luck... both with the last minute z's and with tomorrow's meeting.

Guess Who Wore Her Leather Pants To Wrok Today?

Wrong...

You thought it was me, huh?

This is what I went with today.  Actually not what I had planned last night but occasionally the morning brings necessary change, this time in the form of a rather unfortunate stain on the back of the blouse that I had not noticed the night before.  It was quite late.  Such is life.  Since this was an am ensemble there is but the one picture that made the cut.  Sorry.

Wore this sweater & blazer with black slacks & some burgundy'ish (it's a new word... look it up) booties. Rather conservative, huh?  No real "story" to tell.  Honestly, aside from the booties, I am not sure that I am even happy with today's attire.  Oh well, tomorrow is a new day.

Now, back to the point of this post...

If you have read my blog from the beginning you might remember my encounter with the lady smoking just outside my office building entrance one day when I wore my leather jeans to work?

In case you do not, you can go back and read here to catch up.

Anyway, on my way out for the day this afternoon, we rode down together on the elevator.  Just the two of us, several floors.  Dum Dum Dum  (feel & hear the sound effects?)  Anyway...

I am a people watcher by nature.  I notice when people are milling about.  I notice what people are wearing.  I even "pass judgement" quietly to myself once in awhile.  I know, not nice.  I hope that I still am on Santa's "nice list" but perhaps not?  Anyway...

As I step into the elevator I can't help but notice that she is wearing a very sharp pair of black leather slacks with her tailored white blouse and wool camel colored blazer.  VERY sharp.  Sharp, indeed!

Although I am rather certain that she didn't recognize me (she seemed a bit distracted as she was toying with her unlit cigarette), I absolutely knew who she was right away.  Naturally, I immediately recalled some of our previous discussion and found her wardrobe choice for the day rather odd accordingly.

So what do I do?  Do I work her over about being a hypocrite?  Do I congratulate her for seeing things my way?  Do I ask her silly questions?  Do I simply bask in my satisfaction quietly.  I know that is what a true adult would do but I am not always "the adult in the room"... so...

I turned to her, pointed to her pants and said, "Are those real?"  I just couldn't help myself.  Hee Hee

Shocked and somewhat embarrassed (I think this is when she remembered who I was), she looks down and says, "Yes, do you like them?"... a pause...  "Didn't I see you wearing some recently?"

Me:  "Yes, you did."  "In fact, I recall that you were quite interested in why I was wearing them to work."

Her:  "Actually, I think that I was rather rude that day."  "Is it too late to apologize?"

Me:  "Of course not."

She interrupts... "I must admit, I was a bit nervous about wearing them today but they were a birthday gift from my husband and we were going to meet for lunch so I felt obligated."

Me:  "Well, how do you feel about wearing them now?"

The elevator reaches the ground floor so her response is brief, "Wonderful."  "I cannot tell you how many compliments I have received today."  "I am sure I will wear them on a Friday again soon."  "Again, I am sorry for my behavior before."
Sweet, huh?  How can I not feel good about that?  This is why I never let people's inquiries bother me.  Honestly, in many cases I think it is sincere curiosity, combined with a little envy.  It does take a certain amount of "courage" (I use that word so VERY lightly) to step out of your comfort zone and open yourself to criticism.

Chalk up another "convert" for The Leather Skirt!  I couldn't even type that without smiling.  Hee Hee

Speaking of stepping out of your comfort zone.  I have been asked about photos of myself several times.  I will explain in further detail later but it simply isn't a good idea for me to do that.  Part of it is being self-conscious but that is such a very small part of my apprehension.  Can I leave it at that for now?

HAVE A FANTASTIC WEEKEND
